Dart game basics
are easy to understand and follow as the game of darts is simple and
amusing. Normally played in places like pubs, it can be played by a
single player, with a partner, or in a team. Probably the only game
of its kind, along with cards.
Every player has to throw
sets of 3 projectiles each onto a board kept at a fixed distance. Points
are scored as per the landing point of the projectile. The standard
game is 301 (pronounced as ‘3-Oh-1’) in which the game begins
with this figure from which scored points are deducted till one player
reaches zero. This last point must be won by scoring a double. See below
for more details on dart game basics.

THE SCORING SYSTEM
All of us are familiar with the dartboard,
but perhaps do not know the scoring system. The system is as follows:
Each player throws 3 darts at a time.
If you hit:
Double bull – red
most inner circle – 50 points
Bull’s eye –
green circle in the center – 25 points
Red/green inner ring
– 3 times the number of the patch outside. Called ‘triple.’
Red/green outer ring
– 2 times the number of the patch outside. Called ‘double.’
Other areas on the wedge
– the outside number for that patch.
To score triples and doubles,
your dart must land on the red/green ring itself – the narrow band
- and not over or underneath it.
There are more than a hundred
games with their own specific rules for play. These are described in
the Games section
The maximum points
that can be scored in 3 throws are 180: when all three land on the triple
ring area of number 20, i.e., the inner ring patch covered by the number
20. The minimum point is 1.
Scoring a double:
In many games, a player must score a double - land the dart on
the outer red-green ring - to win the game. Also called 'doubling
out'.
